Oligospermia is a disease of low sperm count affecting men. It is defined as having less than twenty million spermatozoa per ml of ejaculate. Oligospermia has many different causes, as many different medical conditions can reduce sperm concentration. The effects of these causes may be temporary or permanent.

In modern science there is no definitive treatment available for oligospermia , Which will help directly to increase sperm count. But patient thinks that Doctor will prescribe some medicine to resolve their issues.

Doctors generally prescribe medicines because they don’t want the patients to be unhappy. But none of these really works. This treatment goes for long duration and it wastes time, during which partner gets older and her fertility potential decreases. Thereafter assisted reproductive technologies are used, IVF (Invitrofertilization) is too expensive and impractical for most of people and success rate is also very low.

Unfortunately, we find that many doctors still offer IUI (intrauterine insemination) treatment for men with oligospermia. The hope seems to be that washing the sperm will help the doctor to recover the "best sperm"; and since only one sperm is needed to fertilise the egg, then IUI will improve the chances of achieving a pregnancy. Unfortunately, IUI is a terrible treatment for oligospermia, with a very low pregnancy rate. The problem is that oligospermic men have sperm which are functionally incompetent, which is why washing the sperm and doing IUI does not help.

Causes:

Obstruction of the normal flow of sperm due to such conditions as testicular trauma and vasectomy. Scarring due to surgery on the male reproductive system or from infection and sexually transmitted diseases. Decrease in sperm production due to such conditions as Varicoceles (Varicose veins around the testes), hormonal disorders, diseases of the testicles, and obesity. tress, smoking, drug or alcohol use, some medications, exposure to some toxins, malnutrition and being underweight. Some sexually transmitted diseases, such as Chlamydia and Gonorrhea.

Symptoms:

Low sperm count

Benefits of Ayurveda treatment for oligospermia:

    • > Ayurveda treatment is completely free of any side effects
    • > Ayurveda treatment is the fastest among all treatment. Sometimes it raises sperm count fourfold with every month’s treatment till optimum count. So with low sperm count like 3 million per ml. to normal count of 40 million per ml. can be achieved within two to four months of proper treatment.
    • > Ayurveda medicines are effective in 95% of sperm abnormalities i.e. low Sperm count, low motility, low semen quantity and abnormal sperm cell morphology.
    • > The lowest count which can be helped is 1 lakh per ml or 0.1 million per ml.
    • > Ayurvedic remedies improve not only the sperm count but also its quality. It raises low sperm motility to high sperm motility. It also improves grades of sperm motility simultaneously
    • > The success rate of system is very high. In about 3000 patients, it succeeded in 95% of the patients
    • > The greatest advantage is that even after stopping the treatment the higher count remains longer, where as in male hormones (allopathic treatment), it falls (and sometimes the fall is very severe) as soon as the treatment is stopped.

Oligospermia refers to semen with a low concentration of sperm and is a common finding in male infertility. Often semen with a decreased sperm concentration may also show significant abnormalities in sperm morphology and motility. Oligospermia is defined as less number of sperm in the ejaculate of the male. Among infertile couples, 40% are primarily due to the infertility of the male partner, while in 20% of these cases it is a combination of both male and female factors associated which lead to infertility. Out of several causes of male infertility, in clinical practice Oligospermia is considered one of the most prevalent causes.

Since Oligospermia tends to have no effect on sexual function, men may not know they have this unless they are having trouble conceiving with a partner. The diagnosis of Oligospermia is based on one low count in a semen analysis performed at on two occasions. For many decades, sperm concentration of less than 20 million sperm/ml were considered low or Oligospermic, recently, however, the WHO reassessed sperm criteria and established a lower reference point, less than 15 million sperm/ml, consistent with the 5th percentile for fertile men. Sperm concentrations fluctuate and Oligospermia may be temporary or permanent.

Oligospermia is one of the main causes of male infertility or sub-fertility. Sub-fertility is a reduced ability to achieve a pregnancy while infertility is defined as the complete inability to produce a pregnancy after about one year of unprotected sexual activity.
